Supplies Needed
POP Senior 25' Bag Tag Design
Cutaway Stabilizer
Vinyl or Felt
Lightweight Fabric
Heat 'n Bond Light
Let’s Make It!
Hoop one sheet of cut-away stabilizer.
Run step 1- Placement stitches for your vinyl.
Lay your vinyl on top of the hoop covering the placement stitches. Be sure you have about an inch overhang around the perimeter of the design outline so you plenty of room for trimming later. I used a 5 inch vinyl square for this tutorial.
Run step 2- This will stitch the placement lines for your applique fabric piece.
Adhere Heat n Bond Lite to your fabric piece following manufacturer's directions. This will reduce fraying and help your fabric to have clean edges when you trim around the numbers.
Lay your fabric piece over the placement lines for the numbers and secure with tape.
Run step 3- This will tack down the fabric applique piece.
Carefully trim closely around the edges of the stitching of the numbers. Take care not to snip any of the stitches.
Run Steps 4-6. This will run the satin stitch around the numbers (Step 4), a bean stitch in the middle of each number’s satin stitching (step 5), and the word “senior” (step 6).
BEFORE running step 7, remove hoop from your machine, turn your hoop over, and cover the BACK of the design with vinyl or felt right side UP (facing you), and secure it with tape on the perimeter.
*Helpful Tip: If using vinyl for the back, tape a piece of tear-away stabilizer over the vinyl on the back of the hoop. This will help prevent the vinyl from sticking to the bed of your machine.
Run step 7- this is the final outline of the design and will attach the back piece of vinyl to the front.
Remove design from the hoop, remove any tear-away stabilizer, and carefully trim around the the design.
Finish up by punching a hole and setting an eyelet with a tool such as the “We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile for Eyelets.
Attach the bag tag to a beaded chain or steel cable ring and you’re done!
Get creative and have fun creating these new senior class bag tags! You could also try using HTV for the applique portion of the numbers instead of fabric. We love seeing your finished products so be sure to head over to the Parker on the Porch Facebook group and share with us! Happy stitching!
